www.romania.org: frequently asked questions (our F.A.Q.)
Q: "Who are you guys and why are you running this site?"
A: Please refer to the "about" section of our website.
Q: "I really like your Chat, offering a web-based gateway to IRC. I tried to connect, but I got a message that I am banned, though I didn't do anything wrong. Why is this so?"
A: Romania.org offers a public gateway to the IRC channel #romania.
We do not limit access in any way.
Therefore it CAN happen that people enter the channel and use inappropriate language or violate our policies in other ways .
Our channel hosts (OPs) do have the right and are encouraged to ban single people or in extreme cases the whole site through which these people entered #romania to keep the channel "clean", interesting and fun to use.
So not you, personally have been banned, but rather our whole site Romania.org.

Q: "How can I contact the Romania.org staff?"
A: Please click here.
Q: "Your site is so huge and so complex that I am not sure if I really saw everything, that could be interesting to me. What can I do?"
A: Click here and check our site-map for an overview of the entire site with all our pages.
Q: "A site like yours with all its sister sites and services can not run "for free" - it generates cost. How do you raise money? Who covers the cost?"
A: As a matter of fact, our activities do generate cost. Luckily our sponsors and a lot of Romania-enthusiasts worldwide help us a lot to cover the unavoidable expenses and give donations in money of in form of "workforce". If you want to offer help, make a donation to or contact us. As we just recently started to offer paid services (banner hosting on our pages, information retrieval, etc.) we still do depend on our grateful sponsors to who we want to express our warmest thanks!
Q: " (How) Can I become a sponsor?"
A: We warmly welcome everyone who shares our idea to promote Romania and wants to help us somehow to turn it into practice. Become a Moderator of our Forum or help us Review the numberous Links being submitted to our WebDirectory.
Send us an email for details.
Q: "Can I put my banner on your pages?"
A: Sure! Click here for details.
Q: "I (we) have ready designed pages, that would I would like to add to Romania.org or one of your sister sites. Is there a way to publish them with you?"
A: We very much appreciate additions to our sites and services. We host single pages or entire websites for free on the high-performance and high-capacity webservers of our sponsoring company S.C. Internet Service Romania, S.A., given they fit our style (rather from the ideas expressed and the content covered than from the outer appearance :).
Of course the copyright remains with the actual creator of the pages who will also be mentioned. Send us an email for details.
Q: "In which other ways can I bring my site in connection with Romania.org?"
A: There are several methods:
Q: "Are you the official homepage of Romania?"
A: Not really! :-)
In 1996, when we started, there was nothing official about Romania available on the Web. We said: "Maybe one day also Romania will have an "official Homepage" worth to carry this title.". Hence, NO, we are currently not the official Homepage of Romania, though we wouldn't have any problems being it (Please also see the last sentences of our Disclaimer). Actually Romania does not have a central official website as most countries in the world have it even today in 2006. Many official institutions have, ministries etc. But there is no central site to be the 'CORE' of the many totally un-coordinated official efforts. As a result, we must try to represent Romania on the Internet, as good as we can and that's why many people, looking for an "official" site arrive at Romania.org.
In 1997 we made an approach to the Romanian Government and presented a file of ~ 20 pages, covering an in-depth elaborated proposal to host a website for them, for Romania, for the country, covering every single Ministry, Agency, Institution, Judet, state owned company for privatisation, interest of the nation. The site would not have only been informative, answering virtually any question concerning Romania, it would also have helped Romania with the integration into the western world. Though we received very positive comments, our proposal was never turned into practice. In the year 2000 several attempts have been made by the government to generate an official site and many of the ideas we submitted have been copied. But until today, only efforts are visible - no centralizsed and coordinated results...
And, of course, originating form a .org non-profit group, we didn't ask any money from the government for the realization of our proposal...
For http://embassy.romania.org a site which also originated from the fact that we are often contacted by people expecting us to be something official, due to the lack of something turely official, we received a lot of appreciation from official Romanian representative offices worldwide and also from the Romanian Government, esp. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs long before they launched their own web-spot (update: in 2001 the MAE regsitered mae.ro and now HAS a decent website! Congrats! :).
We want to thank to all who wrote us for the correspondence we received from you..
Q: "The speed I experience visiting Romania.org are amazingly fast. Where are the web-pages of Romania.org hosted?"
A: Romania.org is hosted on a server provided by our sponsor Internet Service Romania, S.A.
Our site is now located on a hosting-facility in Germany directly at the central Hub of the Eurpean Internet w. very strong connections to the U.S. and the rest of the World, on servers connected to the Internet with multi-redundant lines - toady's fastest commercially available connectivity on the entire Internet. Click here for the web-page of S.C. Internet Service Romania, S.A.
Q: "I only see English pages here. When will Romania.org also be available in other languages?"
A: We gave up on this idea. English is the global Internet Language and we didnt manage in 10 years to find any native Romanian Speaker who would do a translation for free...
